We have extensive expertise and experience in all areas of private client work, including wills, probate, trusts and powers of attorney.
We can help you to make a will as quickly and as simply as possible. It is an alarming fact that a significant number of people still die in the UK without making a will or, where a will has been made, without ensuring it is up-to-date. This becomes even more important when significant events occur in your life such as marriage, starting a family, buying a house or divorce. We can help you ensure that your assets are distributed in the way you would like them to be.
Why make a Will?
Making a will is the only way to make sure that your wishes are carried out after your death. If you do not have a valid will in place, your estate will be distributed in accordance with the laws of intestacy.
Intestacy
It is a common assumption that if you die without making a will, or with an invalid will, your estate automatically passes to your husband or wife. In most cases, this is not true. For anyone owning assets valued at over £250,000, your estate would be divided and passed to your husband or wife, children, and into trust for the lifetime of your spouse. If you do not have children, or are not married, your estate or part of it may pass to your parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, aunts or uncles, or the Crown.
Your Will
We offer a bespoke will-making service, and we ensure that we take the time to discuss all aspects of your assets and potential estate before we start to draft your will. We are happy to answer any questions you may have relating to inheritance tax and trusts, legacies and residuary gifts. We will provide you with a draft of your will and will explain it fully to you, giving you the peace of mind of knowing that your estate will be handled in the way you wish if the worst were to happen.
Administration of Estates
In addition to wills, we can assist with administration of estates and creation and administration of trusts. We have a vast amount of experience of acting as executors for estates and for executors and administrators, ensuring the realisation and transfer of assets as efficiently and quickly as possible.
Powers of Attorney
We offer a comprehensive service in relation to the creation and use of powers of attorney, including Lasting Powers of Attorney, and we can provide specialist assistance to meet the legal needs of the elderly client.
